Watering can and an old Pail

Richard spray painted these for me, I seem to be on a green theme. That pail is a really old one, really heavy, can't remember where I got it, its been up in the garage for a long time. Sooo I think I put it to good use.

Not sure what this is.

Showing a picture of two plants I bought today. Says it blooms all summer.  Don't know what this is, but it is pretty. Richard spray painted a lot of things for me today,  will be putting those out tomorrow.
Been having a lot of trouble getting pictures on here, not sure what the problem is. Went to a church rummage sale this morning, again, different church then last week. Nothing worth showing here, but I did get another 10 books, .25 cents each. At this rate I should be really smart.

Grandma's Grocery list from 1914

I keep this hanging in the kitchen. This was my Grandma's FIRST grocery list after she got married. Its amazing that I have it because she never saved anything, in fact she gave her wedding ring to the red cross during World War Two. My Aunt Glenda found it someplace and had it framed. If you chick on the picture you can read it.

Its taking Over.

I may have to move or perhaps put an addition onto the the house. I have cut this back several times, but it seems to like that. This started out in a small clay pot, and since then has taken on a life of it own. I'm afraid I will come out to the kitchen one morning and not be able to find the coffee pot. This is the only place in the house that it can go so there is no moving it. I do like it, I guess it just likes us more.Soooo anyway, cloudy here today, about 65 out. Everything is nice and green and so good to see the leaves coming out. Lots to do around here today, might even get a few more plants for the front porch. In case you need to know whats in the wooden bowls, one has lots of smell good stuff in, the one near the door collects the keys and sun glasses etc, now you can get on with your day without that on your mind.

Church Rummage Sale

My Daughter April and I went to a few Garage sales and a church rummage sale yesterday. First time out this year. Oh Boy. So at the rummage sale I found all these things in the picture. Those books at the book store are at least 14 dollars each, I got the books for .25 cents each and the old Life magazine for .10 cents. I love that little hand painted tin cup, that was also .10 cents.I was really happy to find all those books, I was down to my last one, and I always need something to read. I also got four really nice tops at a garage sale for .50 cents each, they are in the wash right now, and a new cooler for water, always have one of those at all the softball games we go to, oh and a couple of other books that are not in the picture. Looks like a nice day here today, I think I will pot up a few plants for the front porch, I can alway cover them if the weather goes to pieces.

An Old Butter Churn

My Aunt Glenda gave this to me. I thought butter churns were bigger, maybe they came in different sizes. Anyway, Auntie said she has had this for many years, thinks it came from the farm she was brought up on, which is the same farm I was brought up on. So I guess if times get bad I can get a cow and churn my own butter. Or build a barn and get a cow just to have my own butter. Probably not, neighbors and the town wouldn't be thrilled. Anywaaaaay, I have a butter churn.

Cinnamon pecan bread.

Well it doesn't look like this anymore, Richard and I put a couple of deep cuts in it. Been busy all morning, washed some windows, washed all the bedding and washed all the floors. Richard mowed the lawn for the first time this spring. Nice here today, in the 60's. We have a softball game later, Grand daughter Mandy in the main pitcher for her team, and two other spring teams, so we spend a lot of time at games. Four just this week. I get lots of vitamin D. See that little chest the lamp is sitting on? I think that is just so cute, I keep all my little spoons in it. I got it at a garage sale a few years ago for two dollars. Garage sales are just starting up here, so maybe I can get to a few soon.

Pretty Lamp from My Aunt Glenda

We went down to visit my aunt last week We go more often now, she is 97 and still lives on her own. Anyway, lucky me, everytime we go to visit she sends me home with good things. I love this lamp. I put a real small watt bulb it it and leave it on all the time.
Been washing all my curtains, almost done. Just have the upstairs to do.Closets, drawers, washing windows, drinking coffee. Been reading alot too. Richard put in a new furance for us, a new hot water tank, and a real pretty new screen door for the front porch. He is outside now working on the yard. Guess thats my newest update.

Opening my Cedar Chest

I have been thinking I really should have a look at everything in my cedar chest. But-- it usually makes me sad., or is it happy?  Kind of like that movie "THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY". Remember her kids were looking at all the things in their Mother's cedar chest? All my pictures from camp when I was growing up, letters from my Grandma and Grandpa that they wrote to me while I was at camp. Grandpa always had interesint information, like one of the barn cats got run over by the hay mower. Good news there. Then there are things from when my kids were little. Oh and a favorite shirt Richard used to wear when we were first together, an old denim shirt. My jewlery I used to wear in Grade school, war albums that were my Dads, many letters that I have kept over the years, ands lots of other stuff.  So one of these days I will get it al out and look at it again. Lets just hope I don't need an anti depressent afterwards.

Bonnie Bunny

Happy Easter week. This is Bonnie Bunny. All felted wool and hand made clothes. Frannie from Texas made her. I have had her for about three years. She even has a little basket and an acorn neckless. How nice to be so handy, I wouldn't have a clue on how to make a bunny, much less felt the wool for one. So Frannie if you read this thankyou for making her for me, she is just too cute.

Using Fabric samples from the Furniture store.

The quilt in the back I made the last time I was given a bunch of samples, I plan on making another one with the new samples I got.  I made the pillows so far with the new samples. Like I said before I'm going to make some pillows for the front porch for summer, that is if summer ever gets here. The ones in the picture I will leave right where they are for now in the back entry way.
Still doing my embroidery, small projects making sachets. I ordered some new filler it should be here this week.  Well off to play house, I really should bake something today, have to go and look into that and see what sounds good.

Getting out Aunt Hattie's Bedspread

Gave our bedroom a good cleaning this morning. Washed eveything, opened the wnidows, and washed the hardwood floors with vinagar. As you can see the curtain are blowing out with a nice fresh breeze, even though its only about 40 out. So Richard's Aunt Hattie made this bedspread many years ago, I usually bring it out for the summer. It must be made really well because its been washed many times. So much work went into it. I want to use it not store it away.

Embroidery has a calming affect

At least for me it seems calming. I can have the tv on while doing it, or it can be quiet and my mind wanders about and I come up with some of my best ideas. Richard says my mind wanders no matter what. Anyway, working on that little bird today. That little Richard and Nancy pin cushion I made years ago when the kids were little.
Still snow and cold here. Last year at this time it was in the 70's and even 80's . That was a really early spring, sure could use some of that. Also wanted to mention that book I pictured a few posts back,"Someone Knows My Name". Good book. Friday night, so we will order a pizza and I will be in bed soon after that reading that book.

Using Furniture Store material Samples

I have a lot of these samples again. I was given some a few years ago and made several pillows and that quilt you see on the chair. Thats not where I usually keep it, but for you to see there it is. Not sure what I will make with the new ones. Maybe some pillows for the front porch, you know to use if warm weather should decide to come my way. Not happening yet. Thinking about making another small quilt to go over the deacons bench in the back entry. Then I saw  in the British edition of Country living cute ideas for bags. OR I could leave all the samples in a nice neat pile and pretend they are not there. Any ideas out there??

Some weekend Stitiching

I made two more of the Cinnamon kitchen sachets. I put them in my Kitchen Towel drawers in the kitchen. I have one that I leave out on the stove with the pot holders. That one is not in the picture, in case you needed to know that. The pillow I made with some material that my friend Wendy gave me from the samples at the furniture store she works at. You know those big things of fabric you look at to choose what you want your couch or chairs covered with? Well they get new ones and then they have hundreds of old ones. So I have a big pile of them. Thank you Wendy. Like I said in an earlier post, I made a quilt  a few years ago when she had given me a lot of them. Sooo if you know anyone in a furniture store ask them if they have any samples they don't use anymore.
Went to church this morning, still cold here. I really would like to play outside.

Some New Books and My Day.

Richard and I went to the book store this morning. I could spend all day there. Richard finds a compy chair and waits for me. Anyway, the British addition of country living. Early American life. Then as far as the books. I bought the one on the right because its by the same person that wrote Downton Abby. The middle one I started and really like it so far. The one on the left I picked because it looked interesting. So I'm good for awhile. Then we stoped at assisited living to see Richard's sister, took her some prett note cards and said we would come up to the home on the 26th for their Easter Brunch. Then stoped at a furniture store whee my friend Wendy works and she gave me two huge bags of material samples. I had some years a go and made a quilt and several pillows. Its all really nice material sample that you cover furiture with. So that was fun. came home and sorted that all out. So thats my Day so far, going to go and check out these new magazines.

Some stuff on a shelf

This is down in my craft area, or one of them anyway. Thats a picture of my Great Grand parents. I have her "Emma's" Diary. Two of them anyway. I was just re-reading them the other night. They are really of interest to me because they were living in the same house that I was brought up in, so when she says she was cleaning the dinning room, or washing the window in the pantry I knew just where she was.Or in the garden or sitting on the front porch. She died in 1936. I wish I had all her diaries, but those were the only two we have. I have her rolling pin, its hand made by her husband, my great Grandpa, it says 1888. I use it all the time. Well off to read a new book I just started, hope its a good one. Cold and windy here today. Aren't those old clothepins in that cup cute?

Redwork Pillow

I made this over the weekend. Its for the upstairs bed that has one of my redwork quilts on. The quilt in this picture was made by Richard's three aunts in the 1930's. They never married and did a lot of nice needlework. Remember the movie arsenic and old lace? Well we never found any bodies but they always made me think of that movie.
